This week Mercedes-Benz revealed its new bakkie. While it might be new to the Stuttgart brand, it is not quite so new because Merc is sharing the platform with Nissan. Underneath the styling is the new Nissan Navara which should be in SA towards the end of this year or early in 2017. But it is not just Merc that is using the Navara platform. It is also the basis for the next generation Mitsubishi Triton and the recently launched Fiat Fullback. And the Renault Alaskan. We saw the new Alaskan, due in SA in 2018, for the first time at the recent Paris Motor Show and grabbed the opportunity to sit down with the project team and discuss the French manufacturer’s plans. First though, the company is not planning just one bakkie model for our market.
