Durban will host the World Economic Forum (WEF) Africa this year. Sihle Zikalala‚ MEC for economic development‚ tourism and environmental affairs in KwaZulu-Natal‚ announced on Monday morning that the city would host the massive event from May 3 to 5. Zikalala said his department had lobbied for WEF Africa to come to Durban, "precisely because of its immense potential to enhance the brand equity" both of the city and the province. It is estimated that direct result of hosting the event will be at least R64m, with a total effect of more than R155m. Regional and global leaders from business‚ the government and civil society will discuss solutions to create economic opportunities for the continent.
