Public Enterprises Minister Lynne Brown and Eskom chairman Ben Ngubane said on Sunday they stood by the board of Eskom and saw no reason for directors to be removed or to voluntarily step down following CEO Brian Molefe’s resignation on Friday. While Molefe has stated that his resignation is not an admission of wrongdoing, it is certain that more allegations of corruption will follow as a future judicial commission digs into other aspects of Eskom’s business as well as that of Transnet, where Molefe had been CEO. Several former executives and directors of Eskom, as well as other insiders, said privately at the weekend that what had been uncovered "was only the tip of the iceberg" and far worse was to come.
