PEOPLE opposed to Eskom’s "surreptitiously slipping" requests in regional government gazettes to approve Thyspunt and Duynefontein as locations for nuclear plants are urged to sign an online petition by the deadline at midnight on Monday, August 29. The online petition and was set up by Organisation Undoing Tax Abuse (Outa). It said it had attracted 17,000 individual submissions by Sunday. Outa chair Wayne Duvenage said every person who commented on the gazette is, by law, an interested and affected party, and Eskom is required to inform them specifically and individually of the placement of any new notices it publishes. "Outa tracks all the submissions made through its portal to ensure that government cannot deny receipt. Outa makes a plea to as many members of society as possible to still comment before the deadline tonight at midnight," it said in a statement on Monday.
