South Africans support renewable energy but are concerned about the costs of rolling it out, according to the findings of a US Department of State survey released this week. The survey, General Public Opinion on Renewable Energy in SA, was conducted to support the US embassy in Pretoria’s Energy 21 campaign. The campaign promotes the benefits of wind and solar energy in creating jobs and energy security. The survey of 3,000 South Africans aged between 18 and 60 and living in SA’s major metropoles showed that 87% supported or strongly supported increased use of renewable energy. The strongest supporters were in KwaZulu-Natal.
