Professor Loretta Feris will become deputy vice-chancellor responsible for transformation at the University of Cape Town in January. She will take over from Professor Anwar Mall who has been acting in this post since Professor Crain Soudien left at the end of August 2015. Feris joined UCT in 2009 as associate professor in the law faculty, where she is director of the Institute for Marine and Environmental Law. She lectures on pollution, natural resources and international environmental law. Her focus as a National Research Foundation-rated researcher is on shaping conversation on human rights, accountability and social justice, in particular environmental justice, in SA and globally.
