Speculation reached fever pitch on Thursday night as President Jacob Zuma was said have replaced Finance Minister Pravin Gordhan with either Sifiso Buthelezi or Malusi Gigaba. Business Day was reliably informed that by late Thursday Gordhan had not yet been informed that he had been removed from him job. A source close to President Jacob Zuma said the two likely candidates to enter the Treasury were ANC MP Sifiso Buthelezi and Malusi Gigaba. Gigaba is expected to be named minister of finance. The Presidency announced on Thursday night that Zuma would make a "special announcement", however no time was given. Zuma had summoned the ANC's top six officials to Pretoria as the spectre of a Cabinet reshuffle hung low over the nation.
