A framework of co-operation between government and the Office of the Public Protector was under discussion, Justice Minister Michael Masutha said in the National Assembly on Tuesday. This issue was among those discussed between Masutha and new public protector Busisiwe Mkhwebane at a meeting Monday. The aim of developing a "proper, comprehensive framework of co-operation between government and the Office of the Public Protector" would be speedy implementation of the remedial action that the public protector recommended, Masutha said during the debate on the Adjustments Appropriation Bill. The framework would also deal with other areas of co-operation. Also discussed was an expansion of the national footprint of the Office of the Public Protector. Masutha said government wanted to make available some of its resources such as court infrastructure to the Office of the Public Protector so that it could expand its national footprint.
