JP Morgan has appointed South African Barry Meyers to head its equity capital markets business for sub-Saharan Africa, according to an internal memo seen by Business Day. Meyers returns to JP Morgan following a two-year stint at Barclays, where he was head of UK equity capital markets. Meyers spent 10 years in JP Morgan’s UK equity capital markets team before joining Barclays. He will also become MD of that team. He "has executed equity raisings and merger and acquisition transactions for numerous … clients, including some of the industry’s most high-profile deals", according to the memo. JP Morgan ended 2016 as the top book-runner in the Europe, Middle East and Africa region, with more than 10% share of the region’s deal value.
